A Celebration of Little Moments

A Celebration of Little Moments

In today’s day with social media and technological services at the center of our daily lives, it can be a bit difficult to tap into feelings of contentment and happiness. We are constantly exposed to the carefully selected experiences, moments, and accomplishments our “friends” post online, curating a seemingly perfect highlight reel. As human beings, we are all impacted to a certain extent by these strategic highlight reels whether we begin to compare ourselves to others online, trick ourselves into believing we aren’t “doing enough”, or even begin to develop feelings of envy or jealousy.

Something really important to keep in mind is that everyone is on their own path. We all have a direction and purpose in life and that differs person to person. Success may look differently for a friend of yours or family member than it does for you, and that is perfectly okay. In fact, that is how it is supposed to be. I like to think it would be quite a monotonous and boring life if we all lived the same lives. Our lives are designed to be lived and experienced differently. It may be helpful to remember as well that the online “life” of friends, strangers, or influencers is not actual life. Instead, it is a plethora of moments that are chosen to be shared in order to create a seemingly seamless, successful, and happy existence. Life is full of ups and downs; without unenjoyable moments, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy happy times. Nobody’s life consists of only the highs, despite how easy it is for social media to lead us to think otherwise.

As I mentioned, we are all human beings, and so nobody is exempt from feeling discontent or unsatisfied from time to time. Something I often fall off track with myself is noticing and celebrating the little victories and moments in my life. Whether they are big life events or a little accomplishment in my daily life, it is worth celebrating. A wise soul once said that “if the version of you from ten or even five years ago could see you now, they would be proud of how far you’ve come, so keep on going”. Time is constantly moving along, and our progress is inevitable. The small moments and little victories may not feel like much in the moment, but they build over time to create great progress, change, and success.

I am continuing to celebrate the little victories in my daily life whether it be finishing the last book on my monthly book list or progressing within my professional career, and everything in between. Creating a list is one way I like to honor the little things in my day. Lists are a great tool for just about everything, but they are really quite beneficial in this scenario. Curating a list of three to five positive moments in our day can help us strengthen the appreciation we have for our beautiful lives. I like to curate this list in my journal each morning with simple little bullet points, but any safe place or time of day you chose will work just as well!

In whichever way this grounding technique fits into your daily schedule, it can help to keep your mind in a positive loop and allow you to celebrate the little victories and moments in life. At the end of each month, I enjoy looking back at my bullet points and reflecting on the progress I’ve made, as well as all the happy moments I experienced over the month. Celebrating our little victories helps us appreciate our lives and find happiness and contentment.
